March 6, 2008 - Hickory Ridge Mall Update:
Structural assessments and clean-up efforts continue at Hickory Ridge Mall. The structural engineers are still assessing
the damage and creating recommendations on specific repairs. We anticipate to have a plan on repairs soon.
Meanwhile, clean-up efforts are moving along nicely at the shopping center. The roof has been patched and covered to
keep water from entering the building during further rain events. At the bottom of this page we have updated the link with
additional photos showing some restored areas of the shopping center so that you can view the progress made to date.
Here are some interesting facts regarding the clean-up efforts:
Factiod 1: To date Hickory Ridge Mall has used approximately 13 dumpsters that each hold six tons of debris
making a grand total
of 78 tons of debris removed.
Factiod 2: A crane worked for five days to remove 37 air conditioning units that had been tossed about the roof like toys.
Factiod 3: Three semi-tractor trailer pump trucks were used to remove roof ballast (stones) at 24,000 square feet of
material a day for a period of five days.
Factiod 4: A crew of 15 people worked at extracting water after the tornado.
Factiod 5: It took a crew of nearly 100 people to pull debris from the facility during the immediate clean up following the tornado.
All mall retailers have been in their stores and are implementing appropriate clean-up efforts. As mentioned earlier, Sears has re-opened and
is operating normal shopping hours. A grand re-opening timeline for the mall is yet to be determined; however as soon as the mall has fully assessed
the extent of the damages and have formulated a reconstruction timeline, it will be publicly announced.
We want to emphasize that it is our goal to get back to normal as soon as possible and that we are committed to providing our customers and employees
with a safe and enjoyable shopping environment. With that in mind, we are taking very thorough steps with all clean up and repair efforts.
We will continue to update this site as information becomes available. Thank you for all of your calls and emails, we appreciate your support more
